Healthy Makeup For Skin: Keep It Simple

Many people must already know that the best look to aim for when applying all natural makeup, or any cosmetics for that matter, is the natural look. In other words, enhance your natural features without looking like you are wearing makeup at all.

Look at models and celebrities and compare them with teenagers who have only just started wearing cosmetics and you will see (in most cases!) that the more experienced wearers will tend to use all natural makeup and as little as possible.

In the same way, it is a good tip to enhance only one feature at a time. Professional makeup artists will rarely make the mistake of making every feature stand out.

Always use a good foundation as a blank canvas and then accentuate perhaps the lips or maybe the eyes – but never both together. Equally don’t redden the cheeks and use a strong lip colour too. Too much going on will make the whole effect overwhelming and too much like a clown.

Emphasizing the lips, for example, with a natural look in all other areas will give you a smouldering look that cannot fail to impress. Equally using your all natural makeup to promote the eyes and reduce the impact of the lips and rest of the face will draw attention to that feature and make you more intense.

As ever, you can play with your healthy makeup for skin and see how emphasizing each feature one-by-one changes your look. Have fun!

Tips To Beautiful Skin: Avoid Toxic Cosmetics

More information has come to light that seems to support the idea of using all natural makeup to look good. There has been increasing concern over recent years over the toxicity of the skin care and cosmetic products we all use day-to-day.

In the USA, The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has been spearheading the drive and has produced some useful healthy skin tips.

Basically they recommend looking for beauty products with as simple as possible ingredients list on the bottles or tubes. Always avoid those containing synthetic products, particularly fragrances.

Sadly the beauty industry is generally unregulated so it is better for us all to understand what we are putting on our skins. The advent of the Internet means we can research products and their ingredients more easily. Do not take claims of all natural makeup, for example, as trustworthy; marketing claims may not be all they appear to be.

Vote with your money. Once you have identified the best products to use, buy them and avoid the unhealthy ranges. This means the producers who genuinely have the health of your skin in mind will prosper and those who do not will suffer.

In any case, why keep your conclusions to yourself? Share your own healthy skin tips online so others can benefit from them.

Sunless Tan Lotions: Models Avoid Sunbeds

Yet more reasons to use sunless tan lotions to get yourself a deep, brown tan came to light this week.

London Fashion Week is about to begin and (as part of Cancer Research UK’s R UV UGLY? campaign which works to raise awareness of the dangers involved in using sunbeds) the leading British model agencies have joined in a ‘no sunbed’ policy.

With perfectly good sunless tan lotions available, model agencies such as Storm, Elite and Union have agreed to a rule of no sunbed use for all their models.

Cancer Research UK have campaigned to highlight the risk of skin cancer involved in the use of sunbeds and have been instrumental in lobbying for new legislation in England and Wales to prevent under 18s from using sunbeds.

Sarah Doukas of Storm Model Management says, “Supporting this campaign makes perfect sense as the wellbeing of our models is of paramount importance and we take a serious approach to their health.”

Using sunless tan lotions to get the tan you want makes sense, especially when you understand the risks of sunbeds. Using a sunbed before the age of 35 increases the risk of worst kind of skin cancer, malignant melanoma, by 75 per cent.

It is an encouraging sign to see model agencies, which get such a bad press with regard to subjects such as thin models, take such a responsible stance.

Healthy Makeup For Skin: Makeup – Mascara Tips

The key to having beautiful eyes that grab attention is knowing how to use mascara correctly. Mascara is the crowning touch when you apply eye makeup. If you’ve always been nervous about mascara, you’ll benefit from these mascara tips.

1. Don’t ever pump that mascara wand! Pumping is where you push the mascara brush into the bottle over and over, hoping to coat it with more mascara. It will just encourage the mascara to clot up and dry out more quickly.

2. Not all mascaras are created equal, so take the time to choose the product that’s right for you. At the same time, be aware that a lot of them are pretty much the same. Don’t automatically trust a label that says you’ll get the best results with this mascara. Also, keep in mind that some mascaras (and mascara wands) are indeed different.

If you want extra long lashes then you’ll need to choose mascara that offers that formula. If you want thicker lashes you’ll need to choose a different one.

3. Another one of the best mascara tips is to buy more than one color. You can have a lighter color for the daytime because you want your makeup to look subtler. At nighttime you can have a darker, more dramatic color.

But you can buy mascara in almost any color under the rainbow– violet, for example. What you buy depends on the look you want either now or in the future. If you keep lots of different mascara, you’ll be ready for any event.

4. When you’re applying the mascara, always start from the root of your lashes. That might seem like the simplest of mascara tips but there are many people who have never applied it before.

As you slide the brush down your eyelashes, wiggle the brush a bit. Then you’ll maneuver the wand in the right position to work your way up the lashes. Apply a quick second coat for the most beautiful look!

5. Be quick when you apply the second or third coat! If the first coat is already dry, just leave it alone. If you still want to add an extra coat, you’ll need to wash the first one off and start over. If you don’t do this, you’ll create nasty clumps in your lashes.

It’s good to know how to use mascara properly, because it can create such a beautiful and dramatic look. Now that you know all these mascara tips, you have a solid foundation to work with. Why not give these tips a try today?

Nutritional Health Supplements: A Lack Of Vitamin D

Recent news has underlined the need for taking daily nutritional health supplements. The Chief Medical Officer for England, Dame Sally Davies, has been reported as concerned that medical professionals are not advising patients to ensure their intake of vitamin D is maintained.

Rickets, once a disease thought to be virtually eradicated, has started to appear in children once more. This condition causes the bones of children to become weaker and softer and leads to weak muscles, bowed legs, reduced growth and pain. It is directly attributed to a lack of vitamin D and calcium and is best treated of avoided by taking a good natural diet supplement.

There is a similar condition called osteomatacia sometimes found in adults.

Vitamin D can be absorbed from sunlight or oily fish (such as sardines, tuna, mackerel and salmon) or even egg yolks. Generally rickets is found in countries with less sunshine than others. Babies receive vitamin D from their mother’s milk but can suffer if their mother is also lacking in this vitamin.

At one stage the incidence of rickets was less than 1 in 1000 children but new research suggests this may now have increased to 1 in 4 toddlers. Previous generations recommended children take a daily dose of cod liver oil to avoid the problem but sadly this practice has been largely discontinued.

To add to the debate, two senior medical professionals have discovered that a vitamin D deficiency may be a factor in some unexplained infant deaths.

Dr. Marta Cohen and Dr. Irene Scheimberg studied the cases of children who had died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Their initial findings indicate a need for more children to take a good natural diet supplement to combat any problems in vitamin deficiency.

The research was a result of a court case in 2009 when Rohan Wray and Chana Al-Alas were accused of shaking a four-month-old baby to death. Both defendants were acquitted following evidence from Dr. Scheimberg that the fractures sustained by the baby could easily be the result of severe rickets.

The subsequent study found thirty cases of vitamin D deficiency in London and a further 45 in Yorkshire. A significant number of childhood deaths examined (around three quarters) were deficient in vitamin D. The resultant weakness of the bones could easily lead to brittle bones and severe fractures. Equally, a vitamin D deficiency can cause hypocalcemic fits, which are a result of low blood calcium levels.

The belief amongst senior medical staff is now that many people in the United Kingdom are deficient in vitamin D and need to take a good natural diet supplement to compensate.
