Tips To Beautiful Skin: Wrinkles – How To Prevent Wrinkles

Introduction

One of the things we dread as we age is not just hair loss but wrinkles. Nothing makes us look older faster than developing wrinkles. To help avoid wrinkles here are a list of causes of how people develop wrinkles.

Smoking

You may not see it, but if you smoke you are not only damaging your health but you are damaging your skin that can lead to premature wrinkling. Smoking not only gives your face wrinkles, but the skin all over your body will develop premature wrinkles also.

The amount of damage you do to your skin will depend on how many cigarettes you smoke per day and how long you smoke. You may be able to damage your skin with only just ten years of smoking.

How does smoking damage your skin? The nicotine and other chemicals you intake during smoking causes the blood vessels in your skin to narrow and restrict blood flow. When this happens less nutrients are allowed to get to your skin. This also damages the fibers in your skin that strengthen it and gives it elasticity.

With the lack of nutrients and the damage to the fibers that give you skin strength, your skin will begin to sag and wrinkles will form.

Sun Light

We all want that glowing tan that gives us that healthy look, but exposure to sunlight or UV (ultraviolet radiation) can damage your skin, not only making you susceptible to skin cancer but premature wrinkles also. The UV radiation penetrates your skin damaging the fibers in your skin causing your skin to sag resulting in premature wrinkles.

It is recommended by most dermatologists today, that you use a sunscreen every day of the year. This is especially important for people with light or fair skin, who tend to develop more sun damage. Most moisturizers today provide a sunscreen in their products that you can apply in the morning before you go out.

Aging

Through the normal process of aging we develop wrinkles. The skins strength and elasticity is lost which causes your skin to sag and wrinkles to develop. This is most prevalent in the areas of the skin that are exposed to the sun.

This makes it more important to stay out of the sun and use a sunscreen daily.

Conclusion

To keep looking younger longer stay away from things that can cause you to develop premature wrinkles. Stop smoking, stay away from UV light as much as possible and use a moisturizer with a sunscreen everyday.

Healthy Skin Tips: Don’t Lose Sleep

There are some excellent skin products available to help your skin look its best (such as all natural makeup, for example) but one of the most significant tips to beautiful skinhas to be get enough sleep.

On the whole, an adult needs at least 8 hours sleep a night – in reality the sleep we actually get averages around 6-7 hours. Too many people get by on less. I used to work shifts and I know what a dramatic impact that can have on all the body’s functions.

Health and beauty is very much a holistic process and reduction in health shows in different ways around the body. The skin is often a good indicator.

It might be a good idea to understand what happens when we sleep. As our rest progresses, the body produces more insulin and cortisol, and this results in increased production of collagen, which is so important to a healthy skin. One of the collagen benefits is the retention of water. The correct levels of moisture in the skin leave it looking plump and fresh; not enough sleep leaves the skin looking tired and drawn with fine lines and dark circles under the eyes.

Much of the body’s repairs go on as we sleep and a lack of sleep affects the immune system. This leads to skin problems such as rashes and even eczema. During our deepest sleep growth hormones do their most important work and cell and tissue repair takes place.

Feeling not as active as you might be? Is your skin looking sallow or unhealthy? The first of the tips to beautiful skin you should put into practice is to get enough sleep.

Find out more about the importance of sleep in this article from the Los Angeles Times.

Nutritional Health Supplements: Excessive Exercise And The Immune System

We probably all know that moderate exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, but did you know those who undertake a high level of exercise might need nutritional health supplements, as the immune system can be damaged?

Interestingly, Professor Greg Whyte of John Moore’s University, Liverpool points out that elite athletes, such as those training for the Olympics have a particular problem with infection especially if their nutrition is not carefully maintained. The body has a greater strain placed upon it and has to work harder so the immune system needs to be in top condition.

Research has shown that more than ninety minutes of high intensity endurance training makes sportsmen and women susceptible to illness for up to 72 hours after the exercise finishes. Stress hormones (adrenaline and cortisol) raise the blood pressure and cholesterol levels to aid energy but at the same time they suppress the immune system temporarily.

Amateur sportspeople can have a particularly tough time with their immune system as their professional counterparts usually have expert advice and a special diet.

This means that athletes need to ensure they have a healthy diet and sufficient recovery days to enable the body to allow the immune system to recover. Increasingly, specialized nutritional health supplements are also used to ensure top performance from the human body.

Natural Diet Supplement: Dealing With Hay Fever

This time of year can be a nuisance for those who suffer from hay fever. There are ways, such as a natural diet supplement, to offset the problems but what is hay fever and what are the other methods of dealing with it?

Hay fever is an allergy to pollen particles and varies according to which type of pollen affects you. The time of high risk lasts from the spring right through the summer.

The numbers of people suffering from hay fever has increased by 30% in the four years up to 2005 but there may be even more sufferers who sort the problem out for themselves. The figures were published in the British Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine and were the result of a study of nine million people on a General Practitioners database.

The reasons for the increase are not clear but may have something to do with the fact that we are exposed to less infection when younger so have less immunity.

It is possible for hay fever sufferers to develop asthma if the condition stays untreated.

There are a wide variety of treatments available and the most popular are antihistamine tablets and sprays but there are concerns in the medical profession that these are not suitable for everyone. Also available are steroid injections, which control the symptoms but these are discouraged now as they are linked to cataracts, skin thinning and even osteoporosis.

Practical steps can be taken too, including wearing wrap-around sunglasses to prevent pollen getting into the eyes, avoiding large expanses of grass, not mowing the lawn yourself and closing windows, especially during times of high pollen levels (generally mid-morning and early evening).

Read more about hay fever on the BBC Health website.

One way to deal with hay fever is to increase the effectiveness of your immune system with a good natural diet supplement. Proto-col are offering a large tub of their marvellous green magic superfood with a supply of the opti-msm immune system stimulant for a discount price of £64.95 (a saving of £14.95).

Natural Diet Supplement: Nutrition In Developing Countries

As populations become more affluent you would expect their nutrition to improve and so they would not need a natural diet supplement.

The inlive.in.com website however reports a talk given to the National Priorities in Nutrition Research conference in Hydrabad recently by Dr B Sesikeran of the Indian National Institute of Nutrition.

In his talk, Dr Sesikeran outlined a change in food habits as people’s socio-economic status improves but the signs are that nutrition does not necessarily get better. It seems Indian consumers are turning to packaged convenience foods for their affordability and as a result of consumers being open to marketing.

A new affluent lifestyle also has repercussions in terms of reduced physical activity, which suggests that obesity and heart disease may be on the increase.

It seems the affluence has brought with it a new range of diseases.

Perhaps more people are going to need to take a natural diet supplement after all.

Healthy Skin Tips: Caring For Your Feet

One of the best healthy skin tips we can use is to look after your feet.

The great comedian Tommy Cooper used to tell this joke: ‘My feet are killing me – every night they grab me around the throat.’

How many times have we used the expression ‘my feet are killing me?’ We take care of the skin on all other parts of the body and neglect our feet. Yet think how much use our feet get during the day.

To be healthy we need exercise and often this involves pounding the feet on the ground. Many of us have jobs that require us to stand up much of the day or at least to walk from one place to another regularly.

In the same way that it makes sense to look after the tyres on a car (as the only contact we have with the road), we owe it to our feet to keep them in good condition. There are several conditions, such as Athletes Foot, blister, corns and bunions, which can affect the health of our feet.

We would notice if we could not use them so here are some healthy skin tips to help your feet.

Soak your feet in warm, soapy water every day. This will help soothe the aches and soften the skin, at least temporarily. In the past I have undertaken a fair amount of hill walking and soaking the feet after a long walk was always a delight.

Infection develops where there is dry skin and cracks so it is a good idea to remove dead skin cells by using a pumice stone or a foot scrub.

To finish the pampering of your feet, moisturize the soles as these do not have oil glands and of course get the most abuse during the day.

A great way to look after your feet is to use Proto-col Instant Pedicure as this contains Dead Sea salts to remove the dead skin cells, Lemongrass as an antiperspirant, the anti-fungal treatment tea tree oil and various natural oils to ease and moisturise the feet.

Nutritional Health Supplements: The Dangers Of Dieting

It seems that every day we see an advertisement for some great weight loss plan that will turn us into a supermodel in days. At the same time the magazines and Internet are full of products with the same claims.

The truth is our bodies run on nutrition; we need certain vitamins and minerals to function. The danger of suddenly adopting a radical programme of weight loss is we will not give the body the nutrition it needs. Reducing a food group will remove the nutrition that group may provide.

Fad diets may help you lose some weight but only in the short term and goodness knows what damage they could do to your nutrition.

Remove all the hype and you start to understand the way the body works. The weight loss industry makes billions of dollars every year and yet obesity is an increasing problem. The reason for this is there is only really one way to gain and keep a healthy weight; you have to eat a healthy diet, not too much, and get regular exercise.

This is why obesity is a modern problem. Go back in history and you will find that life was more physical and there was little time for the body to collect excess fats. Indeed the problem was more a case of a lack of nutrition through poor diet. Some fad diets come close to replicating this ancient problem, despite a better choice of healthy foods and nutritional health supplements.

Stress was a useful reaction as it flooded the body with adrenaline ready to fight or flee from a threat. Modern stress creates the same reaction but involves a mental response and the adrenaline and energy remains uselessly in the body.

If you think about it we collect excess fats in our bodies over a long period of time. It would be foolish to suppose we can remove them quickly. In some cases such a weight reduction could cause unhealthy stresses on the body anyway. The key is to switch to a healthy balance of the correct foods and regular exercise. Fad diets often run the risk of removing the nutrition we need.

The best diet contains a good range of assorted natural foods as these are what makes the body work most effectively. Obviously fruit and vegetables are key to this and a good intake of water keeps everything hydrated and functioning. The best foods have to be home grown or locally sourced as they contain the best range of vitamins and minerals.

Exercise does not necessarily mean a trip to the gym. In fact, the best exercise involves something you can do every day without too much effort. Ditch the car for short trips and instead take a bicycle or even walk. Housework and gardening, using manual tools where possible, can provide gentle aerobic exercise and getting a pet dog gives you a great excuse for long walks.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle does not involve magic solutions but rather understanding what you eat, improve the quality of your food, reduce the quantity if necessary, eating regularly and exercising regularly. If you are worried about your nutrition levels you might consider nutritional health supplements, perhaps a multi-vitamin containing natural ingredients, but special weight reduction diets and products are rarely needed.

Healthy Skin Tips: Prevent And Defeat Acne

Young Woman Looking Thoughtful

One of the curses of teenagers is of course acne. Despite the claims of anti-acne products there is not really one way to defeat the problem. However there are some healthy skin tips which can help reduce acne and in some cases solve the problem entirely.

Acne is always a risk when the body is developing and growing and is often made worse in girls as they start using cosmetics for the first time. Not surprisingly they begin by using cheap chemical makeup but unfortunately this tends not to work with the skin. All too often such makeup will simply cover the skin and block the pores. The subsequent build up of oils will encourage more spots.

The first of the healthy skin tips for teenagers therefore – and everyone else for that matter – is to use all natural makeup. Otherwise known as mineral cosmetics these products contain natural ingredients that work with the skin and provide nutrients.

Ironically many woman discover all natural makeup later in life once they know a bit more about makeup and skin care but it is effective from the outset and can give the foundations of healthier skin in later years.

Teenagers have a habit too of wearing their makeup for long periods of time: perhaps even sleeping in it. This is another reason for wearing all natural makeup as you can go to sleep in it with no ill effects as it allows the skin to breathe.

Other healthy skin tips help too.

Be wary of acne treatment products. Some are acidic and can actually harm the skin. Again, natural ingredients are best but it is not always necessary to use anything at all.

As always, the nutrition and your diet are essential to looking and feeling good. The old phrase ‘you are what you eat’ is very true here.

A healthy diet will help reduce all skin problems including acne. Too many fatty foods will only help produce a greasy skin.

Food and lifestyle is essential to a good skin no matter what the age. Remember your food provides the vitamins and minerals your body – and skin – needs. I suspect this is a waste of time to say this but another of the healthy skin tips is to get lots of sleep and drink lots of water. Sadly this is something most teenagers will ignore!

Another good skincare tip for acne sufferers is to be clean. Ensure you wash your face regularly with moderately hot water. Cold water will simply transfer the infection to other areas and very hot water will damage the skin anyway. Try not to touch affected areas and, if you do, wash your hands before touching anywhere else.

Acne is a difficult and embarrassing problem for many teenagers but with a few healthy skin tips things can be much improved.
