How To Make Skin Glow Naturally

Somehow we can instinctively tell when someone takes care of their looks. Their skin has a glow to it that improves their attractiveness more than mere clothes and makeup can do. For this reason, it is useful to understand how to make skin glow naturally.

A good diet is always the first place to start. Ensure the food you eat includes healthy (preferably organic) fruit and vegetables with a wide range of nutrients but especially vitamin C, omega 3 fatty acids and fibre. Ensuring you have a balanced diet will often ensure you get the nutrients you need but, in any case, it is always well worth taking a good quality multi-vitamin supplement to top up the levels of goodness you require. Avoid eating too much sugar, salt, caffeine and drinking alcohol as these will dry out the skin and reduce its shine.

Exfoliate at least once a week. A good exfoliating product will ensure the dead skin cells will be removed, allowing the healthy cells to shine.

Use a moisturiser at the beginning of every day and in the evening. This will form a great base for cosmetics during the day and help the skin cells repair themselves at night. To help plump up the skin, also drink plenty of water during the day: this will also help the body clear any impurities too. Consider a course of high quality collagen tablets too: as we get older we lose collagen and so elasticity in our skin.

You can also make lifestyle choices to help your skin. Smoking should be avoided as this damages the skin cells, as does exposure to the sun. Nicotine and ultra violet rays lead to wrinkling and premature ageing. Make sure you get regular exercise, as this will stimulate the heart and lungs, leading to a better distribution of oxygen to the skin.

So it is really only a matter of decisions as to how to make skin glow naturally. If you are serious about looking good, then it is worth developing some good habits.

Include Barley Grass as One of the Ways to Have a Healthy Lifestyle

More and more people are turning to vitamin supplements as one of the ways to have a healthy lifestyle. More than half of Americans take a daily supplement and around 40% use a multivitamin supplement. In the UK alone the market for such supplements in 2009 was £670 million.

With doubts about the levels of nutrition in our diets, it is hardly surprising that we are looking for alternative ways to have a healthy lifestyle. It is interesting to understand what goes into supplements and how they manage to supply the goodness we require.

Barley Heads Held in the Hand on a Small Farm

This drive to find ways to have a healthy lifestyle means that certain foods have shot into the limelight and have been labeled ‘super foods.’ One of these new stars is barley grass.

Barley grass powder is found in many of the high quality supplements we take. It come from the dried leaves of the barley plant and as such can be considered a vegetable. The benefits of this food are astonishing and some have claimed barley grass on it’s own provides most of the nutrients the body needs.

Calcium is hugely important to the human body to build and maintain important hard structures such as teeth and bones and studies have shown barley grass contains up to four times the level of calcium found in milk.

Iron too is very important to our health. It underpins many of the essential processes that take place within our bodies; iron is vital in the production of red blood cells and in the distribution of oxygen molecules around from the lungs to the processes that demand it. The immune system also depends on iron for it’s correct functioning, as does the conversion of blood sugar to energy. Generally iron is a vital component in the construction and maintenance of cells within the body and is especially important in times of high stress, such as pregnancy (when the mother supplies iron to the unborn child) and exercise.

Barley grass has been shown to contain up to 22 times the level of iron than spinach. It also includes all the essential amino acids, 13 different vitamins and 12 minerals.

Interestingly barley grass also contains levels of chlorophyll. This substance is of course essential to plants and other life forms but has also been found to combat harmful bacteria within the human body. It has been proved to repair and rejuvenate damaged tissues.

Clearly barley grass is a useful substance if you are looking for ways to have a healthy lifestyle. When you next select a nutrition supplement, you could do a lot worse than look for one containing barley grass.

Proto-col’s Green Magic contains barley grass powder – try a trial size of this amazing multivitamin supplement at LookRavishing.com.

Vegetarianism, Nutrition and Your Health

If you become a vegetarian, it is rarely to improve nutrition and your health, but more as a rebellion against the consumption of living animals. Many would consider a vegetarian diet to be unhealthy and some may label it unnatural.

The truth is a meat-free diet can be good for your nutrition and your health; as in all diets, care has to be taken to eat the right foods to enable the body to operate at its best. Nutrients that many of us consume from animal products can be found from other sources.

Salad and a Fork on a Red Plate

It is important to ensure a balanced, varied diet in the same way every person does.

There are certain nutrients you need to include to ensure the best for nutrition and your health.

Fish and eggs, for example, generally provide us with adequate supplies of Omega-3 fatty acids and these of course help the heart to function at its best. You may however have chosen a diet (and there are degrees of vegetarian diets) that excludes these food types.

To replace a source of required fatty acids, you will need to consider soy oil and beans, walnuts and seeds, such as flaxseeds. As with all the nutrients, if you find it difficult to eat the goodness you need, you might consider using a good quality vitamin supplement.

We all need calcium in our diets to ensure strong and healthy teeth and bones and this can be found in dairy products, otherwise dark green vegetables, such as broccoli and kale, will help, but also an increasing number of juices and cereals now include extra calcium.

Iron is an important part of your nutrition and your health no matter what your diet so it is essential to include sources in your food. Iron helps carry oxygen around in the blood. For vegetarians breakfast cereals, spinach, lentils, dried fruit and whole wheat breads can provide iron.

Dairy products such as milk and eggs can provide vitamin B12, as can soya milk and some breakfast cereals. A lack of this vitamin can affect nutrition and your health especially in the brain and nervous system: fatigue, depression and forgetfulness are early symptoms.

These are just some of the important nutrients our bodies need to function correctly. If you choose a vegetarian diet then you still need to ensure the maintenance of nutrition and your health from appropriate sources.

New Research Shows How Collagen Benefits Our Bones

Man Doing Yoga In Spectacular Coastal Scenery

Making up around 75% of the body’s protein, collagen benefits most of the functions we rely upon. We need adequate levels of this essential substance to ensure our skin, hair, nails, muscles and joints operate as they should. Studies have shown collagen benefits can be particularly effective in treating arthritis and sports injuries.

Another area that we now understand is affected by a loss of collagen is the strength of our bones. Beyond the age of 25 the levels of collagen in the body reduces by around 1.5% every year. As we reach middle age this loss starts to be significant, especially with the onset of hormonal changes in women, and conditions such as osteoporosis (brittle bones) can cause distress.

We have known for a long time that such problems can be reduced by a combination of a good diet, regular exercise and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol. The careful consumption of supplementary collagen benefits our bodies too (find out more about collagen supplements at LookRavishing.com).

It has taken a recent study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to understand just how the collagen benefits our bones.

The structure of bone has long been something of a mystery; the two main constituents of our skeletons are soft collagen and hydroxyapatite, a hard form of a mineral called apatite, but the riddle has been how these two work in combination.

Hydroxyapatite is brittle, like chalk, and collagen is the opposite, very bendy and soft, so researchers attempted to find out what combines the two to make the tough substance we know as bone.

It took the latest technology to shine the light upon this mystery: super computers were used to produce three-dimensional image of the molecules and it was shown the grains of hydroxyapatite are incredibly tiny and embedded within the collagen. They are held together by electrostatic energy.

The new research opens the door for further studies to discover just how conditions such as osteoporosis take place and how they can be countered.

Let’s hope the answer is not too far away.

Reducing Cholesterol as One of the Ways to Lead a Healthy Lifestyle

Stunning Brunette in a Black Dress

More and more people are trying to find ways to lead a healthy lifestyle and yet the biggest killer in the United Kingdom, the United States and many other countries is heart disease. It makes sense for us all to deal with the causes of this killer and find ways to avoid them.

Heart disease can be the effect of several things, including age, your sex (men develop cardiovascular disease more than women), ethnicity, smoking, high blood pressure and excess weight. Heart problems can also be inherited. One of the most significant causes however is a high level of cholesterol in the blood.

Cholesterol is actually useful to the body. It is a fat produced by the liver and is used in the construction of every cell in the human body. It is naturally carried in the blood for use around the body and has a wide range of uses. Cholesterol helps in the production of hormones (including sex hormones), insulates nerve fibres, determines which substances can pass through cell walls, helps produce bile, breaks down certain vitamins for use in the body (such as vitamins A, D, E and K) and changes Ultra Violet rays from the sun into vitamin D. So a lot of uses then.

Reference is often made to ‘bad’ and ‘good’ cholesterol. So-called bad cholesterol is termed LDL (low density lipoprotein) and it carries cholesterol from the liver. It is this version that causes the problems whenever there is an excess. The HDL (high density lipoprotein) on the other hand removes the cholesterol and returns it to the liver to be broken down or passed out of the body as waste. The HDL is the good cholesterol.

As with so many substances however, too much causes problems. High levels of cholesterol cause a variety of problems for the heart. The arteries can become narrow and blocked, the muscles of the heart cannot receive enough oxygen or a blood clot can block one of the key blood vessels.

So how do we ensure the correct level of cholesterol in our bodies?

As ever we should be looking for ways to lead a healthy lifestyle: we need to undertake regular exercise, get enough sleep (8 hours a night for many of us), drink alcohol only in moderation and avoid or stop smoking tobacco. Perhaps the most significant thing we can do however is to have a healthy diet.

Ensuring the right levels of nutrition in our diet is important to the fight against excess cholesterol. It works best in combination with the other methods above but it is still important. We need to eat the obviously healthy foods, such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and oats but also ensure we get enough of the right fats. We need to reduce the level of saturated fats we consume and eat more of those rich in Omega-3: this can be found in rapeseed oil, olive oil and oily fish (salmon is a good example).

I think we all owe it to ourselves to ensure we find ways to have a healthy lifestyle and look after our hearts by controlling cholesterol.

Nutrition and Your Health: Nutrition During Pregnancy

Black and White Image of Pregnant Lady in Front of a Window

There are few more stages in a woman’s life that disrupt nutrition and your health than pregnancy. On one hand your body is under stress and on the other you are trying to give your inborn baby the best start in life.

During this joyful time it is worth looking after your nutrition and your health. This is a great time to ensure you are as fit and healthy as you can be and, apart from anything else, you give yourself and your child the best opportunity to get the most from the experience.

Obviously the best way to ensure you get the best nutrition is to eat a healthy diet, as it always is, but during pregnancy there are vitamins and minerals that need a boost. You could stuff yourself with the foods that get you the extra nutrition but this is not always possible, perhaps as a result of your lifestyle or the lack of opportunity.

The best way to make sure you get the goodness both you and your baby need is to start a regime of good quality vitamin supplements that use natural ingredients.

So which nutrients will you need?

First of all, it is always worth consulting your doctor before taking any supplements, particularly to ensure it fits in with any treatment you may already be receiving with regard to pregnancy. However, all expecting mothers will need more of the basic building blocks of life including folic acid, vitamins C and D, calcium and iron.

To find out more about nutrition and your health during pregnancy, the National Health Service website has some useful information, as does the US News Health website.

Whatever happens it is worth getting your nutrition and your health right to ensure things go as well as possible and having your baby is as joyous an event as it should be.

Nutrition and Your Health: Bioprene

Beautiful Afro Caribbean Lady In Green and White Bikini

Many of us are looking for ways to have a healthy lifestyle, decide to use regular vitamin supplements and yet are confused by the plethora of ingredients available.

One substance found in certain supplements is bioprene.

Black pepper has been seen as a healthy spice for centuries and is the worlds’ most traded spice, the majority coming from Vietnam. A wide range of illnesses was considered to be cured by black pepper: among them were gangrene, heart disease, indigestion, liver problems, lung diseases, insect bites and constipation.

Bioprene is an extract of black pepper and contains the active ingredient piperine, considered to be responsible for many of the health benefits attributed to black pepper.

In the few relevant studies available, bioprene is widely believed to help the absorption of nutrients in the gut, such as beta-carotene, selenium and vitamins B6 and C, but piperine has been shown to promote the metabolism and the production of energy. Thermogensis is the process of energy production from fat within the body and it is this piperine boosts. For this reason, bioprene is an important constituent of some slimming pills and supplements for athletes, bodybuilders and other sportspeople.

A faster metabolism means consumed food will digest faster, fats will be burned and nutrients will be absorbed at a quicker rate. Clearly it makes sense to use bioprene to encourage a more efficient use of nutrients.

Studies dating from some years ago suggested there might be a toxic quality to black peppers but the increased usage in recent years has proved this conclusion was inaccurate.

If you are looking for ways to have a healthy lifestyle then products including bioprene may be a part of that.

Proto-col’s Thermo-slim product contains bioprene to aid your metabolism. Find out more at LookRavishing.com.

Healthy Skin Tips: Preserve Fatty Acids

There is a lot of talk about removing fats from our diets as one of the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle and yet, in the right quantity, certain fats are essential for the correct operation of our bodies.

This is particularly true of our skin. The aim of any skincare regime has to be to ensure a plump, healthy skin and this is provided by the essential fatty acids. These useful substances maintain the skin’s cell walls and provide the means for the movement of water in and waste products out.

We are always being told to drink as much water as possible to keep our skin healthy and it is the fatty acids that ensure the water gets to the skin. A healthy skin looks plump and hydrated so we should do all we can to ensure this can happen.

Skin lacking the necessary fatty acids looks dry and lifeless with sagging and wrinkles.

The role of fatty acids in the maintenance of cell walls ensures, as mentioned, the removal of waste deposits. Acne can result when the cells are not able to remove the bad fatty deposits that build up in the skin and block pores. The fatty acids not only ensure the ability of the cells to deal with this problem but they also have anti-inflammatory properties to enable the skin to repair any damage caused by such conditions as acne.

Repairing damaged skin is also a feature of fatty acids that enables them to deal with damage resulting from Ultra Violet rays from the sun. Exposure to the sun creates free radicals, which damage the cells, destroy collagen and cause more premature ageing. Fatty acids, particularly Omega-3, acts as an antioxidant and combats the attack.

Fatty acids can also be used to treat other conditions such as eczema, rosacea and psoriasis.

It is very clear therefore that one of the best healthy skin tips is to maintain your fatty acids, particularly Omega-3 and Omega-6. They can be found in certain foods, such as seeds, walnuts and oily fish, including salmon, but also some high quality food supplements will help you get the healthy, plump skin you desire.

Choosing a Good Food Supplement for Nutrition and Your Health

Breakfast And Dietary Supplements On A Worktop

Many of you now understand the importance of nutrition and your health in order to enjoy life. Few of us however are willing to ensure we have a balanced diet that gives us the nutrients our bodies need, turning instead to the use of nutrition supplements.

In 2010, the US market for dietary supplements, the biggest, reached $28 billion, an increase on the previous year. The trend is the same in many other western countries and sales of dietary supplements in China reached $10 billion in 2012.

These supplements, with their impact on nutrition and your health, obviously represent a huge market. But should we just take the cheapest brand or are some better than others?

In reality it would be wise to consult a medical professional before undertaking any major change in lifestyle that would impact your health, either positively or negatively. Be sure that food supplements are right for you.

Also research the products available and understand what nutrients would benefit you most. A good multi-vitamin would have the best positive effect on your nutrition and your health. There are basic vitamins and minerals your body needs to operate effectively so make sure any health supplement you take will include these.

The Internet gives us plenty of opportunity to understand which nutrient does whiter and it would be worth having a chat with your family doctor about what would be best for you. Older ladies, for example, may suffer from a reduction in bone strength (osteoporosis or ‘brittle bones’) so an extra influx of calcium would be very useful.

There are few side effects connected to dietary supplements – but there are a few. Problems may particularly occur if you are already taking medication, are recovering from an operation or are pregnant.

The quality of dietary supplements can vary too. As is so many other examples, you tend to get what you pay for so cheap brands may not be as effective as a high quality product.

The supplements most effective on nutrition and your health tend to be made from natural ingredients. The body tends to accept such substances more readily. Also be aware that better quality supplements have a better coating. Cheaper products have plastic-derived coatings that may not dissolve in the gut and pass out complete.

Get into the habit of dropping one tablet of any new supplement into a glass of water: it should start to dissolve within an hour. You can always drink the water afterwards, if you are afraid of wasting it!

The key is to research any dietary supplement before you buy. Understand what it contains, find any reviews that may be available, take professional advice and ensure that the product will indeed have a positive effect on your nutrition and your health.

A good, balanced diet is always a priority but, if you cannot achieve that, ensure you take the best and most appropriate supplement you can.

Discover more about taking health supplements on the US Department of Dietary Supplements website.

Way To Have A Healthy Lifestyle With Protocol In 2013

Beautiful Slim Lady In Red Top Posing For The Camera

You may have seen a few health and nutrition articles helping you decide on ways to have a healthy lifestyle in the year ahead. We have come up with a couple here on BeRavishing.com.

To coincide with the start of 2013 those clever people at Proto-col have also relaunched the health and beauty brand to help you look and feel great this year. They have examined the ways to have a healthy lifestyle available and have introduced new promotional packs to help you achieve them.

At this time of year especially, we feel down and unhealthy and it is times like this that we need a boost to our nutrition. Proto-col are offering a ‘Health and Wellbeing’ twin pack of the potent Green Magic multivitamin power and a vitamin D supplement.

Green Magic is largely tasteless and can be consumed in a variety of ways. One contributor on Twitter recently revealed she sprinkled the powder on ice cream but the more common method is to mix it in with your morning fruit juice.

Vitamin D is becoming better known now as a promoter of calcium in the body (and so giving healthier bones and teeth) but it is an important element in an effective immune system. In this way it could help us avoid the common cold. Recent research has also shown other benefits from the consumption of this useful vitamin such as reducing the risk of multiple sclerosis, ensuring good brain function and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Ensuring that healthy body weight is also the focus of another of the promotion packs from Proto-col. Green Magic is also included in the ‘2013 Weight Loss Program’ pack, which includes Thermo-Slim and Carb Blocker too.

Thermo-Slim assists the consumption of a healthy diet by using herbal technology to suppress feelings of hunger and boost the metabolism. This ensures you feel more motivated to take exercise and find your ideal size. Thermo-Slim is free of the potentially addictive Ephedrine.

Ephedrine is also excluded from Proto-col’s Carb Blocker. This product is derived from white kidney beans and blocks the enzymes responsible for the digestion of carbohydrates. This reduces the conversion of starch into glucose and so helps control body weight. Carb Blocker is safe enough to be used permanently and is safe for diabetics.

To find these two and other promotional packs in their new, striking packaging, why not visit LookRavishing.com?

Until now, the great products from Proto-col have only been restricted to selected areas of the globe but during 2013 new international distributors will be launched, this ensuring that many more people discover the ways to have a healthy lifestyle offered by Proto-col.
