Achieving Flawless Skin With Makeup Makes Us Feel Good

Why do we buy makeup? Most women try to get flawless skin with makeup to look good, but does it go further than this?

In 2011, a study by the University of the Basque Country delved into the reasons many of us have for buying cosmetics. Getting flawless skin with makeup can be a psychological process.

It was discovered that advertising for cosmetics deliberately set out to make us all feel ugly in comparison to the models used. Sadly of course most of us are unlikely to achieve such flawless skin with makeup as the photographs used in advertising are often airbrushed to look perfect.

Nonetheless the cosmetics industry is growing: the world market is presently worth $243 billion, an increase of 3% since 2008 (www.ibisworld.com). Figures from CTPA also show that the UK market was worth £8.3 billion ($13 billion) in 2011 and the European market €67 billion ($90 billion).

There is certainly evidence that wearing cosmetics correctly makes the wearer feel a great deal better about herself. Knowing that the wearer demonstrates how she looks after her health and takes care of her appearance helps boost self-esteem. Of course we should never judge people by their looks but subconsciously we look down on people who clearly do not care for their appearance.

We all want to look attractive to the opposite sex and achieving flawless skin with makeup frequently helps achieve this. Looking good often helps in situations such as seeking employment too.

Getting our look right by practising with cosmetics has positive trade-offs therefore so it is worth finding the best makeup for your skin and working on looking good. Spend time on how you look and the results may surprise you.

Why Models Are Turning to a Healthy Makeup for Skin

As we grow older decisions we made in earlier years start to produce results. Many women used artificial makeup in their formative years and are finding that a more healthy makeup for skin is the better option. Unfortunately all that time using cheaper low quality cosmetics can cause a reduction in nutrition in the skin, clogging of the pores and lessened supplies of oxygen.

This could well be one of the reasons skin wrinkles increase considerably, alongside other causes such as alcohol, excess sun and a reduction in collagen. Now is the time to turn to healthy makeup for skin and use mineral powder cosmetics.

Increasingly professional models and celebrities are using a healthy makeup for skin to help them look good when in the glare of publicity.

Good mineral makeup will provide nutrients to the skin and will allow the skin to breath. The use of natural ingredients in a good, healthy natural makeup will reduce the instances of reaction: artificial products can introduce chemicals to which a sensitive skin will react.

Several brands of mineral makeup deliberately introduce extra goodness to the skin to ensure that natural glow is maintained. Some ensure antioxidants are included to counter free radicals that damage the cells in the skin.

The fact that such healthy makeup for skin is made from mineral powder means there is also less moisture involved. This may seem a bad idea but wet cosmetics can develop bacteria and require artificial preservatives to last long enough.

Using the correct brushes, mineral makeup can also last longer as less is needed to achieve the required effect and, as the best look is often natural, it is easier to look as if you use no makeup and yet achieve a healthy glow to your skin and emphasize your best features.

As usual, the increase of models and celebrities using a healthy makeup for skin has lead to others following their example and a steady increase in the market for natural mineral powder makeup.

How to Look Beautiful Naturally

Most of us, whether we admit it or not, want to look at our best and it makes sense to look beautiful naturally rather than relying on artificial products.

To look at our best we need to look at our lifestyle. What we do every day affects the way we look.

Audrey Hepburn came close to the truth when she said, “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” One of the first things we need to do to look beautiful naturally is to reduce the stress in our lives. When we get stressed the heart rate changes and we breath faster and less deeply: this has the effect of restricting the blood vessels to the skin, which leads to a lack of a glow to the skin through a reduced blood supply.

So reduce the amount of pressure you put yourself under and look for the good in other people. You will feel and look better.

There are external stresses to avoid too: smoking is a bad idea as it dries out the skin, restricts the blood vessels and promotes premature ageing. This is also true of spending too long in the sun (not forgetting the risk of skin cancer, of course) although some exposure is good as it improves the supply of vitamin D to the skin. Always be prepared to wear a good sunblock if you want to look beautiful naturally.

Get enough sleep as it is as you sleep that the skin repairs itself and the wrinkles reduce. Also drink plenty of water before you need to do so. Once you feel thirsty it is too late and your skin will already be losing its plumpness. Get into the habit of drinking enough water daily: avoid caffeine and alcohol however as they have the effect of drying the skin.

Not surprisingly a good diet is essential to look beautiful naturally. A good balanced diet without too much of one food is ideal but include a wide range of fruit, vegetables, nuts and oily fish (for the Omega-3 oils). Avoid too much sugar too as it has been linked to breakouts of pimples and spots. The body needs the right fuel to maintain its functions so watch what you eat: if you are worried about your nutrition, you might consider a course of good-quality multi-vitamins too.

Exercise is good for the skin too as it promotes the body’s functions and opens the pores. Remember to shower afterwards of course to remove any dirt ejected by the sweat. You don’t need to run a marathon, just 30 minutes of walking, running, cycling or swimming will do: just enough to get you out of breath.

To look beautiful naturally you do need to look after your skin. Use a good moisturiser daily after washing with a gentle cleanser and padding the skin dry. If you do use makeup, to look great why not use the best minerals makeup you can afford? Cosmetics of this type will not block your pores and may even provide nutrients; remember to carefully clean your brushes after each use though.

It is not that difficult to look beautiful naturally. It is simply a case of getting into healthy habits and controlling your lifestyle. In the end, you will not only get to look beautiful naturally but you will feel good too.

Health and Nutrition Articles: Looking After Your Feet

A Selection of Feet on a Wooden Floor

I take particular care of my car tyres as I realise they are what holds my car to the road and get as much wear as any other part of my car: perhaps in the same way I should take more care of my feet.

Your feet take a good bashing whatever you do in life (except sleep!). For this reason we should really look after our feet as one of the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle. As too many people have discovered, if we do not look after our feet, we can find moving around quite difficult.

In many ways we need to ensure our feet are as healthy as possible.

The first thing to remember is that our feet need as much nutrition as any other part of the body, so if we feed ourselves the right nutrients then all our immune systems, skin and bones will benefit and work to their best.

Bear in mind too that the condition of our feet can also affect the operation of the rest of the body. Walking awkwardly through problems with the feet can make us compensate in other ways, leading to problems in the back, knees and hips.

If we really are dedicated to the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle then it would be worth looking after our feet by wearing the right kinds of shoe. A new trend is wearing no shoes at all to let the feet breath but, as this is not always practical, we need to consider whether some ‘fashionable’ footwear is really worth wearing. High heels and restrictive footwear can lead to painful bunions, corns and cracked heels.

Sensible shoes are really the best option for regular use. Intriguingly, experts say the best time to go shoe shopping is in the evening when your feet are slightly swollen: shoes bought then will be less tight during the rest of the day.

There are a few tips to take care of your feet, particularly if you get regular exercise that might put even more stress on them. Runners, hikers or even those who are on their feet all day for work should take care to ensure their feet get the attention they deserve.

It is always worth keeping your feet clean and dry. Keep the area between your toes dry (dry them after a bath or shower); fungal growths such as athlete’s foot thrive in damp conditions. As with all skin, it is worth moisturising your feet every day.

Massage will ensure the mass of bones and muscles in the feet will operate at their best. This will also help to relieve sore feet so it is worth doing this before you go to bed. You might also consider giving the soles a scrub with a pumice stone to remove any dead skin.

The Proto-col Instant Pedicure product, found on LookRavishing.com, will give your tired feet the treatment they deserve, with its blend of essential oils, dead sea salts and refreshing fragrance.

Cut your toenails regularly to avoid any damage but avoid cutting the corners as this can lead to painful ingrowing nails. By all means finish off with a layer of nail polish.

If you are sat down watching television or in a bus or train, it is always worth exercising your feet by wiggling your toes and rotating your ankles. This too will refresh your feet and remove any stress resulting from repetitive actions during the day.

Should you suffer from diabetes or any other condition that affects the circulation, it is so important to consult your medical advisor on ways to watch and improve the condition of all your extremities.

Even though they are generally overlooked, the feet are so important to our day-to-day activities. If you are serious about ways to lead a healthy lifestyle, you should include time to look after them.

Combatting Dry Skin To Look Beautiful Naturally

Beautiful Lady In A Fur Coat With A Bridge In The Background

We all want to look beautiful naturally but sometimes it can be hard, especially when we struggle keeping our skin moist and healthy. Dry skin can be a real curse so what causes it and how can we deal with it?

This time of year in the northern hemisphere we are just coming out of winter (although it doesn’t seem like it here yet!). The cold weather we experience in winter is responsible for causing dry skin. Low temperatures and wind take the moisture from the skin and cause it to wrinkle and crack.

In the cold weather the natural reaction is to dive indoors and turn the heating up or perhaps sit by a roaring fire. Sadly even this does not help us to keep our skin healthy or help us to look beautifully naturally. These sources of heat remove the moisture from the air and cause dry skin again.

Even in the warmer weather our skin can dry out. Once the temperatures start to increase, the air gets drier and saps the moisture. If we then make the mistake of spending too long in the sun, the ultraviolet rays can dry out and burn the skin leading to premature ageing with it’s attendant wrinkling and sagging.

The answer is to create a barrier to the cold weather using a warm hat, scarf and gloves or to combat hot weather and the suns rays with a floppy hat and sun blocking cream. Every evening before we go to bed, a good moisturiser should be applied to affected areas (including the lips) to help restore visible health.

If the dryness is a particular problem then it would be worth applying moisturiser at other times too, such as when you get up in the morning too.

Be careful having hot showers and baths too as these can also dry out the skin. Have a less hot bathe and reduce the time you spend in the shower or bath.

Be careful what soap you use as harsh detergents can also have a detrimental effect. A good quality soap designed for dry skin will moisturise as it cleans.

Equally rubbing your skin dry will actually remove moisture. Pat it dry with a soft towel and your skin will take in the moisture it needs and you will remove the excess.

Other causes of dry skin include ageing, excess alcohol and various skin diseases and conditions.

In the case of skin conditions, such as dermatitis or psoriasis, it would be worth consulting a medical professional for specialist treatment to help you look beautiful naturally.

Obviously the way to combat alcohol-induced problems is to reduce your intake. However alcohol disturbs your body’s nutrition so it would be wise to increase your intake of vitamins and minerals with a good quality multi-vitamin supplement. Make sure especially that vitamins C, A and the B vitamins are included, as well as zinc, as these are a particular problem.

To reduce the dryness of skin that age brings with it, get into the habit of using a good quality skin cream first thing in the morning and last thing at night and ensure your nutritional intake is at its optimum level.

It is worth keeping your skin in top condition and moisturised if you want to look beautiful naturally. This winter I have spent a great deal of time outside and have had a particular problem with dry skin. On occasions my hands have even started to show cracks and bleed.

I have managed to solve the problem through the daily use of a skin balm from a local company called the Old Apothecary in Lyndhurst, Hampshire. My biggest ally however has been the marvellous Instant Manicure from Proto-col; the Dead Sea salts remove dead cells and the essential oils moisturise the skin, leaving my hands wonderfully reinvigorated. The Instant Manicure is available from LookRavishing.com.

More People Are Experiencing Collagen Benefits

Attractive Young Lady In Mad Action Pose

A recent report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc. has shown that more and more people are set to discover the benefits of collagen as a way to improve their health. The growing number of older people and increased demand from developing nations mean that this useful protein will be in greater demand across the globe.

Collagen of course accounts for around one third of the total protein found in the body and is especially significant for the skin, bone and connective tissues in the joints. This is why extra collagen benefits older people as we start to lose more of the substance the older we grow.

In the example of our bones, we reach our peak bone mass between the ages of 20 and 30, after which it deteriorates at a rate of between one and two percent each year. This accelerates during menopause and leads to the distressing condition of osteoporosis or ‘brittle bones.’

Equally, a reduction of collagen in the connective tissues in our bones leads to the cartilage that protects the end of the bones wearing away. This means the bones rub together and wear, creating the painful condition we know as osteoarthritis. Athletes discover the benefits of collagen in keeping their joints operating at an optimum level.

Collagen benefits the skin too. It makes up around 75% of the skins mass and is affected by a number of conditions. Once again, menopause can accelerate the loss of collagen in the skin as we age and it is this that causes the loss of elasticity in the skin and leads to wrinkles and sagging.

The benefits of collagen can also be seen in the condition of other skin-related areas. The time taken for wounds to heal increases as our collagen decreases with age and both nails and hair lose their vitality.

But it is not only ageing that affects the level of collagen in the skin. An excess of exposure to Ultra Violet rays (such as in the sun) leads to premature ageing or ‘photoaging,’ with the increase of wrinkles, dryness, thinning, sagging and bruising in the skin.

A study published in the International Journal of Dermatology in 2002 reported that wrinkling had been recorded in the facial skin of cigarette smokers as young as 20 years old. Research shows that smoking damages the level of collagen in our skin too. A person who smokes ten cigarettes a day for ten years is more likely to lose their skin health than someone who does not smoke at all.

Professor Greg Whyte, senior physiologist at Liverpool University, advises the British Olympic Team and is frequently called upon to advise celebrities undertaking difficult challenges on television. He has no doubt about the benefits of collagen: “We need it for healthy joints, physical resilience and the ability to recover from injuries.” He tells us that we lose 1.5% of our collagen each year after the age of twenty-five. This means we have lost thirty percent by the age of forty and the benefits of collagen are also lost to us.

It is hardly surprising therefore that the GIA report shows that more and more of us are seeking products that restore the benefits of collagen as we get older.

The report shows an increase in competition in the collagen market too, driven by increased innovation in how we reintroduce the substance and thus the collagen benefits into our bodies.

This means there is more choice for consumers of collagen and therefore more confusion as to the best products to use.

One of the most effective ways to restore the benefits of collagen is to simply take the collagen hydrolysate tablets used by members of the British Olympic Team and produced by Proto-col. Find out more about these tablets at LookRavishing.com.

Using Lavender In Mineral Powder Makeup

Lavender Plants In Rows

There is a bewildering array of cosmetics available to those who want to look their best (and that must be nearly everybody!) but one of the priorities must be to find a healthy makeup for skin. Mineral powder makeup uses natural ingredients to work with the skin for optimum benefits.

This means mineral powder makeup uses ingredients not previously associated with cosmetics. One of these is lavender.

Lavender has always been associated with perfume and aromatherapy to encourage good sleep and reduce anxiety but other uses are now becoming better known. Extracts from this plant have now been found to combat respiratory disorders, remove lice from the hair, help digestion, relieve pain and help the immune system but research has also shown lavender has benefits for the skin too.

The oil from lavender has antiseptic and antifungal properties and can be used to treat disorders such as acne, psoriasis, athlete’s foot, inflammation, wounds, cuts and sunburn. It has been found to help the formation of scar tissue.

Lavender has anti-inflammatory properties and encourages better circulation so, when it is used in a healthy makeup for skin, there is reduced redness and blotchiness. Skin benefits from a better distribution of oxygen and the improvements in circulation promote this too.

This medicine cabinet in a bottle was reported as far back as 1910, when French chemist Rene Gattefosse discovered how immediately plunging a burned hand into lavender oil allowed the burn to recover quickly without scarring. Having said that, the ancient Greeks and Romans would introduce lavender oil to their baths and use it as incense.

Extracts from this useful plant can also combat the effects of stress and external toxins as well as smelling great. One starts to wonder why any makeup line would not include lavender in its ingredients.

Generally lavender oil is hypoallergenic so is useful for mineral makeup powder for those with sensitive skin. If you are looking for a makeup to benefit your skin, then it would be useful to find one that includes lavender in its ingredients.

Take a look at the new line of Proto-col Baked Mineral Cosmetics, which use lavender oil extensively.

Healthy Skin Tips: Taking Care Of Your Skin Over 40

If there is one thing we cannot avoid it is growing old and yet we can still look good no matter what age we are. Perhaps the best of the healthy skin tips as you age is to find ways to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Making the most of your health not only improves the look of your skin but also gives you a vitality that shines through and helps you look and act younger.

This means being careful with your diet, adding nutrition supplements as appropriate, and getting moderate exercise. Getting enough sleep, having fun and laughing a lot will help too. Of course there are healthy skin tips that can be used to ensure the skin is maintained to its best advantage too.

One of the best ideas is to use a mineral powder makeup that works with your skin to let it breath and perhaps even provides healthy nutrients the skin needs. After all, the skin is a vital organ in the body and, like all the vital organs, needs care to operate at its best, and, in any case, our skin is the first thing people see!

Another advantage of using mineral makeup powder is that you can experiment with your look as you get older. Bright colours might look great when you are younger but the natural look is probably more flattering later on.

Our skin gets drier as we age so a good moisturiser is essential. There are plenty on the market so be certain you have one that works with your skin and reduces those wrinkles. Ideally you should use both daytime and a nighttime moisturiser.

As you will have seen elsewhere on this site, we lose more collagen the older we get. One way to combat this is to try a course of collagen capsules. The benefits of collagen include reducing the number of wrinkles and giving the skin back some of the elasticity it will have lost.

A way to preserve what collagen you have is to protect your skin when out by using a sunscreen and covering up wherever possible. Too many UV rays will result in premature ageing.

Before committing to a new skincare product, it is worth trying one pot to ensure it really does work with your skin. Equally, if you want to start a new course of supplements it might be worth consulting your doctor.

Health And Nutrition Articles: Male Skincare Big In Asia

Young Bearded Man In White Shirt Looking Into The Camera

Just as women all around the world are looking a ways to lead a healthy lifestyle – including using better, more healthy mineral powder makeup – men are now starting to catch up.

Of course we men have been interested in being more healthy in terms of nutrition, particularly if we want to excel at sports, but now there is a trend towards men taking care of their skin.

The consumer research group Euromonitor International has published a report on men’s grooming and it seems Asian men are leading the world in purchasing skincare products.

Ladies have always looked after their skin but now men are slowly starting to follow them. The trend is slower in Europe where the financial constraints are restricting sales (skincare is still seen as a luxury) but in other areas the market is buoyant.

Asian men are much keener on skincare than Brazil, for example, where the emphasis in on deodorants. South America is another area where men’s grooming products are on the increase.

Health And Beauty Tip Number 10: Get Enough Sleep

Young Woman Asleep In Bed At Sunrise

It looks like finding one of the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle is easier than you might expect. One of the most important beauty tips you can come across is simply to get more sleep.

Yup, your skin will thank you for getting enough shut-eye each night. We all know days after late nights when we look in the mirror and are faced with puffy and saggy eyes. The body uses sleep time to regenerate – and that includes the skin.

I was at a major hospital recently as the sun set and was amazed to see lots of maintenance workers coming out and repairing all those jobs that were reported to them during the day. Your skin is the same: as you sleep, the body’s priorities turn to growth and repairs. If you have drunk enough water, the skin will be moisturised from within. The damage caused during the day by pollution will be repaired.

Studies have compared photographs of people who have had enough sleep and those that hadn’t and every time the pictures of the good sleepers were seen as more attractive.

Of course, sleep won’t solve everything but a nice night of Z’s will give you a major start the next day. And you will feel good too.

What’s not to like? Sleep has to be one of the best healthy skin tips.

See more about the benefits of sleep on the YouBeauty.com website.
