Ways To Lead A Healthy Lifestyle: Taking Care Over What We Eat

Young Lady Looking At Her Healthy Restaurant Lunch

Once again we greet a new year and once again we reflect on how we could have done things better over the last twelve months. I suspect many of us will be looking for ways to lead a healthy lifestyle in the future and will be setting our New Year resolutions accordingly.

The other day I had a conversation with the proprietor of a local gymnasium and he was telling me how he loves this time of year. It seems there is a huge surge in membership applications from people joining his club trying to find ways to lead a healthy lifestyle in the year ahead. What such businessmen love is a large proportion of the people who sign up use the facilities once or twice and then stop going. Many of them forget to cancel their membership as they fool themselves they will start going again when the situation is right.

At the same time, a great deal of us looking for ways to lead a healthy lifestyle will be signing up to various diet fads and may even be losing weight as a result. Statistics have shown that around 50% of women and 25% of men are following a restrictive diet and the weight loss industry in the USA alone is worth around $40 billion a year. Sadly there are problems with this way of life. Firstly many people who come off a diet frequently gain the weight they previously lost and many diets leave the dieter short on essential nutrients.

So what is one of the best ways to lead a healthy lifestyle? Actually the answer is, and always has been, to change to living a balanced life with a combination of the right diet, exercise and, well, just living sensibly.

What does this mean to our daily diet?

Many dieters, in trying to find ways to lead a healthy lifestyle, work against the needs of their bodies. To be most effective we need to work with our bodies. Firstly we need to eat a balanced diet including a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables. The human body works best when it is receiving all the vitamins and minerals it needs to support all its functions. We need to eat three meals a day and include a balanced selection of foods that provide the goodness our body needs.

This of course requires discipline and the first of the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle is to ensure we make breakfast the most important meal of the day, If you think about it, what we eat early in the day has time to provide the energy for the day and any excess is burnt off before we go to bed. For this reason, lunch should be reasonably substantial too but the last meal of the day (dinner or supper) should be light. My own experience has shown that eating too much too late in the day can actually prevent my getting a good nights sleep. The old adage ‘Breakfast like a king, lunch like a Prince, dine like a pauper’ has always been true.

It is important to ensure we have the nutrients the body needs to work effectively. In particular the immune system deserves to be kept at it’s best to fight off any diseases that might attack. Recent research suggests that the immune system may even destroy up to 90% of cancers before we are even aware of them. There is a school of thought that believes most diseases and medical conditions become a problem through bad nutrition.

Dieters can also sadly and ironically affect their health in their quest to lead what they see as ways to lead a healthy lifestyle. Eating disorders are becoming all too common among both men and women. The BBC report that hospital admissions for eating disorders rose by 16% last year as we pursue the ‘perfect’ body. Yet, in my opinion, the perfect body for each person is best achieved through the suggestions I am making today.

It is worth researching the food you eat and discovering how it can contribute to the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Understanding what we eat is part of the battle. Using organic, unadulterated fresh foods has to be good for us, particularly as the ill effects of pesticides, additives and other chemicals has yet to be fully understood, and I am concerned about putting alien substances through our bodies. For this reason I buy most of what I eat from local farm shops and farmers markets. By far the best way to ensure the quality of the food you eat is to grow your own: you also gain a certain satisfaction too.

If you do have concerns about the level of nutrients you consume, it might not be a bad idea to also include some food supplements based on natural products. Such a range can be found on the LookRavishing.com website.

Next time I will look at other ways to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Health And Beauty Tip Number 11: Nutrition Is Easier For The Whole Family

Mother And Child Trying An Apple With Flowers In Foreground Healthy Skin Tips

If you are a parent and are looking for ways to have a healthy lifestyle, you may find it difficult if the rest of the family are still stuck in unhealthy habits.

No matter who believes it, one of the best healthy skin tips and ways to generally avoid many illnesses and the subsequent drugs frequently prescribed, is to find one of the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle. One of the biggest influences is diet and nutrition.

Most caring parents tend to run their lives according to the needs of their family and often neglect their own health. The tip today is to involve the whole family in your drive to be healthier.

If you can, why not grow some fruit and/or vegetables in your garden or window box? You could even take your children to a farm or somewhere else to see their food growing. Take time out to buy food from a local market, cook food from fresh and give your children responsibility for a part of the work. Explain to them how nutrition works and how it affects the working of their bodies.

It is quite likely that you may need to take a good quality nutrition supplement to ensure you have the goodness you need – explore the ingredients with your family and involve them in the decision regarding which supplements to take.

Most children love to learn through fun methods and will embrace nutrition in this way. Fortunately many schools are also teaching more about cooking and nutrition so you may find yourself working alongside their school activities.

This article on the AARP blog explains how some volunteers are teaching children in America about the food they eat.

Tips To Beautiful Skin: Nourishment For Your Skin

The human body needs nutrition to operate correctly. For this reason many of us use nutritional health supplements for optimum health and healthy eating is also essential. The skin care industry is booming with products that claim to provide all the nutrients your skin needs to look glowing and healthy.

So one of the most important healthy skin tips has to be: provide the right vitamins and minerals your skin needs to look good.

But what does our skin need to look and be healthy?

Antioxidants are very useful for a good complexion. These reduce the damage caused by rogue molecules called ‘free-radicals’ that damage skin cells and speed up the ageing process.

Antioxidants are found in vitamins A, C, and E as well as in beta-carotene. These are widely found in fruit and vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, apples, bananas and blueberries. Other sources of these useful vitamins also include chicken, eggs, wheat germ and even oysters.

Omega 3 is also useful to your skin. These fatty acids are good for us in that they help the skin stay strong and so repel day-to-day pollutants and toxins.

Foods that are rich in Omega 3 included good quality fish, eggs and walnuts.

The key, as always, is to have a healthy, balanced diet supplemented by a good natural diet supplement and you should end up with a healthy, glowing skin that will truly make you look ravishing.

Natural Diet Supplement: John Bishops Tough Week

If you have ever wondered if you need nutritional health supplements to help you get through the week, spare a thought for comedian John Bishop who, following the example of David Walliams (who swam the length of the River Thames recently), set himself a grueling challenge.

John decided to run, cycle and row the 290 miles from Paris to London over five days in order to raise money for the Sport Relief charity. Bear in mind that John has never done anything even vaguely similar!

Fortunately he has help in his challenge. Professor Greg Whyte is one of the United Kingdoms foremost experts in sports physiology. A former Olympic athlete himself, Greg is an advisor to the British Olympic team and is the first person celebrities call upon when they are about to take on an extreme challenge. Greg accompanied David Walliams on both his previous Channel swim and the more recent River Thames challenge. He is with John Bishop at every step of the way.

Greg Whyte understands the need for correct nutrition in sport and ensures all his clients take the nutritional health supplements they need to complete the challenges they set themselves and that they are operating at an optimal level.

Professor Greg Whyte is also closely associated with the Proto-col company, recommending their range of nutritional health supplements to all his clients. Indeed, John Bishop is powered by Proto-col products in his present challenge.

See more about John Bishop’s challenge on the Sport Relief YouTube channel.

Nutritional Health Supplements: A Lack Of Vitamin D

Recent news has underlined the need for taking daily nutritional health supplements. The Chief Medical Officer for England, Dame Sally Davies, has been reported as concerned that medical professionals are not advising patients to ensure their intake of vitamin D is maintained.

Rickets, once a disease thought to be virtually eradicated, has started to appear in children once more. This condition causes the bones of children to become weaker and softer and leads to weak muscles, bowed legs, reduced growth and pain. It is directly attributed to a lack of vitamin D and calcium and is best treated of avoided by taking a good natural diet supplement.

There is a similar condition called osteomatacia sometimes found in adults.

Vitamin D can be absorbed from sunlight or oily fish (such as sardines, tuna, mackerel and salmon) or even egg yolks. Generally rickets is found in countries with less sunshine than others. Babies receive vitamin D from their mother’s milk but can suffer if their mother is also lacking in this vitamin.

At one stage the incidence of rickets was less than 1 in 1000 children but new research suggests this may now have increased to 1 in 4 toddlers. Previous generations recommended children take a daily dose of cod liver oil to avoid the problem but sadly this practice has been largely discontinued.

To add to the debate, two senior medical professionals have discovered that a vitamin D deficiency may be a factor in some unexplained infant deaths.

Dr. Marta Cohen and Dr. Irene Scheimberg studied the cases of children who had died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Their initial findings indicate a need for more children to take a good natural diet supplement to combat any problems in vitamin deficiency.

The research was a result of a court case in 2009 when Rohan Wray and Chana Al-Alas were accused of shaking a four-month-old baby to death. Both defendants were acquitted following evidence from Dr. Scheimberg that the fractures sustained by the baby could easily be the result of severe rickets.

The subsequent study found thirty cases of vitamin D deficiency in London and a further 45 in Yorkshire. A significant number of childhood deaths examined (around three quarters) were deficient in vitamin D. The resultant weakness of the bones could easily lead to brittle bones and severe fractures. Equally, a vitamin D deficiency can cause hypocalcemic fits, which are a result of low blood calcium levels.

The belief amongst senior medical staff is now that many people in the United Kingdom are deficient in vitamin D and need to take a good natural diet supplement to compensate.

Nutritional Health Supplements: The Cold Season

This time of year can be very beautiful with the golds and reds of the trees but it is also the season when we need to be taking our nutritional health supplements to stave off the inevitable colds that seem to be around now.

But when we take these nutritional health supplements, what vitamins and minerals are best this time of year?

As always, nutritional health supplements should be taken as part of a healthier lifestyle to be most effective so it is better to ensure your life generally involves healthy options.

Your diet should always be balanced and healthy no matter what the time of year. Eat enough, but not too much, of the right foods, including those rich in vitamin C, which is the vitamin most used to combat the common cold. This can be found in such foods as citrus fruit, red and blue berries and green vegetables but a good diet should always have a good spread of fruit and vegetables in any case.

Ensure you get plenty of rest and sleep and avoid stimulants such as coffee, caffeine rich or sugary drinks and alcohol as these will simply increase your stress level. Moderate exercise taken on a daily basis will make you feel good and boost your immune system.

Drink lots of water to hydrate your body and ensure the best operation of your bodily functions. Experts vary as to how much water is best but something around eight glasses of water each day seems to be about right.

It is a sad fact of life that much of the food we eat does not contain the goodness it might have done in previous years: for this reason it is a good idea to include a daily multivitamin natural diet supplement. You can then be confident you are doing all you need to stay healthy.

A substance now available as a natural diet supplement and gaining popularity as a means of boosting the immune system is colostrum. This is obtained from the mammary glands of animals, often cows, and is rich in antibodies the body uses to combat various toxins, bacteria and viruses.

In the run up to Christmas a stinking cold can be a real annoyance but in reality we can reduce the chances of contracting one.

The website LookRavishing.com has details of quality nutritional health supplements to help you avoid the bugs and illnesses common this time of year.

Natural Diet Supplement: Nutrition For Toddlers

It is always important to ensure we all have the right nutrition – whether from our diets or from nutritional health supplements – but it is all too easy to forget that one of the most important times to ensure the body is getting the nutrients it needs is when we are growing.

One of the most difficult times a parent can have with their children is when they are at the toddler stage. Interestingly toddlers need less food than they did as babies but nutrition is still very important. Get it right now and your offspring will start off on a healthy life and will have reduced health problems in the future.

Yes, too often the wrong foods are given to children at this stage and parents run the risk of starting a cycle that leads to obesity. Smart parents need to respond to their own instincts rather than implementing a strict and unattractive regime of diet and nutritional health supplements.

Get a youngster enjoying fruit and vegetable now and you will have fewer problems when they get to the more rebellious stages. Make the foods fun and brightly coloured and your child will accept them more readily; carrots and broccoli, for example, are brightly coloured so will attract the eye of a toddler. Fruit is easy as you can combine a variety of colours in a meal.

As always, a balanced diet is the key so there needs to be a balance of fruit, vegetables, dairy products (yoghurt, milk and cheese – remember that calcium!) and some lean meat or beans.

To be completely sure you are giving your child the correct level of goodness and nutrition, it makes good sense to provide a good natural diet supplement every day too.

It is clear one of the best things you can do for young children is to get them used to the right nutrition, from food and a good natural diet supplement.

Collagen Benefits: The Wide Benefits Of Supplementation

It seems to be generally accepted that collagen benefits the youthful look of our skin and it is the loss of collagen that promotes the production of winkles and sagging. This is of course accelerated by such lifestyle choices as smoking or over exposure to the suns rays.

However it must be remembered that collagen is the most common protein found in the human body and therefore has significant effects on other parts.

Most notably one of the other collagen benefits is on the connective tissues such as ligaments and cartilage. The gradual level of collagen loss with age contributes to a loss of quality and strength in the hair and nails as well as the increase in such difficult conditions as arthritis and osteoporosis.

Arthritis is the result of deterioration of the cartilage usually coating the ends of bones to prevent them grating against one another and wearing the ends. Remember a major component of cartilage is collagen and it is the reduction of collagen that contributes to this breakdown.

Traditional treatment for arthritis tends to concentrate on anti-inflammatory products but these really attack the symptoms of the condition (the swelling resulting from the joint problem) rather than repairing the deterioration and indeed there may be some negative side effects not properly understood yet.

Osteoporosis is the reduction in bone density most often following menopause. There is a reduction in levels of calcium and collagen leading to brittle bones that sadly break too easily. The intake of calcium in younger life can help reduce the impact this condition can have.

There is some research and anecdotal evidence that indicates a supplement containing collagen benefits sufferers of the above conditions. In any case there is no evidence that the use of such a natural diet supplement has any side effects or that you can overdose (after all, it is a substance already important to the body).

Interestingly, there has also been some recent research from the University of Texas that shows collagen injections have a beneficial effect on men suffering from unitary incontinence. Is this another way a natural diet supplement containing collagen benefits the body? Who knows?

Take a look at the collagen capsules from Proto-col at LookRavishing.com and buy three bottles for the price of two.

Healthy Skin Tips: Good Habits

There are a great many products on the market designed to keep your skin in the best possible condition, but we do we need these? Are there some healthy skin tips to help us look at our best?

The key is to get into good habits; a healthy skin requires attention every day but this does not need to be laborious. Healthy skin tips are closely related to the habits we need to keep all the processes in the whole body in top condition.

Top of the list of healthy skin tips is a good diet and nutrition. Eating the right food is important to a healthy body and a healthy skin. A good balanced diet is always to be recommended and should include lots of fruit, vegetables and protein. Protein can be found from various foods such as nuts, beans, poultry and fish. Meat is acceptable in the right quantities but the leaner the better.

Obviously vitamins are a good idea, as is fibre, and these can be found in the right diet although a good natural diet supplement is a good idea as well to ensure nutrition is up to scratch.

Excesses are certainly to be avoided. Too much sugar and alcohol can dry the skin, for example. Of course drinking lots of water each day will have the opposite effect and nicely hydrate the skin.

Some people may be surprised that moderate exercise is good for the skin. Brisk walks, gardening or cycling for example promotes the circulation of the blood and this will bring goodness and vitality to your skin.

Healthy skin tips do include the use of some quality products. The basic one to use is soap. A good wash with soap and water every day is important and drying the body carefully, including all the folds and creases, is helpful. Interestingly ordinary soap is generally best to use as antibacterial soaps tend to reduce the acidity of the skin and it is this acidity that combats infection.

If you have dry skin then a good natural moisturiser is good to use on a daily basis too.

Perhaps inevitably any list of healthy skin tips will include warnings to avoid both prolonged sunbathing and smoking. Ultra violet rays in the sunlight can damage the skin and cause cancer and premature ageing. Smoking retracts the blood vessels to the skin and also causes the skin to age faster.

This is a simple list of healthy skin tips but in fact developing and keeping healthy skin is fairly simple. It is just a matter of forming useful habits and looking after yourself.
