Sunless Tan Lotions: Tanning Injections

The Herald.ie website has repeated a warning from the Irish Health and Safety Executive and the Irish Medicines Board about self-injected fake tan injections available online.

Unlike mainstream sunless tan lotions, this injection, sold under the name ‘Melatonan,’ has not been authorised for use in Ireland and indeed there are some reports of nausea, leg pains and fatigue experienced by users of the product. While there have been no official reports of problems, both bodies have issued warnings.

The injection claims to help tanning by increasing the level of the melanin pigment in the skin, as well as suppress appetite and increase libido. It is clearly a wonder product. Or is it?

As with all injections, there is a constant danger of infection and introducing a product not properly tested and approved is risky at best.

At the time six million face flannels were sold every year in Britain but sales have been dropping at a rate of six per cent every year. The key to flannel use is to use a clean one every day. Wash the cloth in warm water before use as a warm flannel feels like a spa treatment every time. Here is another of those healthy skin tips: do not use water that is too hot as that can burst capillaries in the skin and give you red blotches.

It has to be understood that the flannel is used as part of your cleansing routine. Remove your makeup first before patting your face gently with the warm flannel. Then apply your facial cleanser before using the flannel soaked in warm water to rinse away the cleanser. Finally close the pores by splashing your face with cold water.
