Ways To Lead A Healthy Lifestyle: Gum Disease And Health

One of the important elements and one of the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle is to ensure the health of your teeth. But is this only to do with having a good smile or are the effects of bad teeth deeper than this?

The website TopDentist.com has interviewed several dental health experts to see if keeping your mouth in good shape also improves overall health too. In other words, is oral hygiene important to our well being?

The resulting opinions seem to lean towards evidence that bad dental health can encourage such threatening conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, even if it is the presence of harmful bacteria in a position where it can easily access the rest of the body. Any lack of cleanliness in the body can encourage serious conditions in various parts of the body. At best it simply puts the immune system under pressure and at worst, and opinions seem to be divided on just how serious the effects can be, it can encourage life threatening conditions.

In any case, it is not necessarily that gum disease causes other illnesses but it can be that the condition can be an indication of problems elsewhere. After all, the body’s functions and parts are all interrelated so, just as the eye can indicate ill health in other parts of the body, the mouth can show the existence of harmful bacteria in the body.

Whatever the reasons, one of the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle is to pay attention to your oral health and visit a dentist regularly.

Health And Nutrition Articles: A Powerful Nutrition Combination

Many people are looking for ways to have a healthy lifestyle these days – with good reason. Our health underpins everything we do in life.

Sadly we cannot rely on either the way we live or the products we buy in the supermarkets to provide the goodness we need for optimum health. Increasingly we need to use health supplements to give our bodies the nutrition they need.

Proto-col have a range of supplements that use natural ingredients to ensure the nutrients required for optimal health. This is particularly true in the summer.

Hay fever affects an estimated 15 million people in the UK alone and Green Magic is one product that provides a boost to the immune system and helps reverse the symptoms of hay fever. Studies show that probiotics, including Bifidus Bacterium and Lactobacillus Acidophilus, could help combat those symptoms. Green Magic includes these ingredients as well as high levels of natural vitamin C and antioxidants.

The combination of nutrients in Green Magic give you the equivalent of 5-7 portions of fruit and vegetables in each teaspoonful and the positive effect they have on the immune system help your well being and your digestion too.

Another of the ways to have a healthy lifestyle is to include Opti-msm in your daily routine. This supplement (msm stands for methylsulfonylmethane) has been shown to also reduce hay fever symptoms. Again the immune system is supported and there are also anti-inflammatory benefits from the ingredients sourced from nature.

The third supplement you could use in this group to ensure your body gets the nutrition it needs is Calcium Complex. Almost essential for anyone over the age of twenty, Calcium Complex combines two essential elements needed by a healthy body – calcium and collagen.

Calcium and collagen benefits the body through increased bone strength and density (so preventing conditions such as osteoporosis), the better operation of connective tissues and joints (staving off the onset of arthritis) as well as improving heart and muscle operation.

Obviously other ways to lead a healthy lifestyle exist, such as exercise and rest, but why not try the Proto-col nutrition products to be found at LookRavishing.com?

Natural Diet Supplement: John Bishops Tough Week

If you have ever wondered if you need nutritional health supplements to help you get through the week, spare a thought for comedian John Bishop who, following the example of David Walliams (who swam the length of the River Thames recently), set himself a grueling challenge.

John decided to run, cycle and row the 290 miles from Paris to London over five days in order to raise money for the Sport Relief charity. Bear in mind that John has never done anything even vaguely similar!

Fortunately he has help in his challenge. Professor Greg Whyte is one of the United Kingdoms foremost experts in sports physiology. A former Olympic athlete himself, Greg is an advisor to the British Olympic team and is the first person celebrities call upon when they are about to take on an extreme challenge. Greg accompanied David Walliams on both his previous Channel swim and the more recent River Thames challenge. He is with John Bishop at every step of the way.

Greg Whyte understands the need for correct nutrition in sport and ensures all his clients take the nutritional health supplements they need to complete the challenges they set themselves and that they are operating at an optimal level.

Professor Greg Whyte is also closely associated with the Proto-col company, recommending their range of nutritional health supplements to all his clients. Indeed, John Bishop is powered by Proto-col products in his present challenge.

Nutritional Health Supplements: A Lack Of Vitamin D

Recent news has underlined the need for taking daily nutritional health supplements. The Chief Medical Officer for England, Dame Sally Davies, has been reported as concerned that medical professionals are not advising patients to ensure their intake of vitamin D is maintained.

Rickets, once a disease thought to be virtually eradicated, has started to appear in children once more. This condition causes the bones of children to become weaker and softer and leads to weak muscles, bowed legs, reduced growth and pain. It is directly attributed to a lack of vitamin D and calcium and is best treated of avoided by taking a good natural diet supplement.

There is a similar condition called osteomatacia sometimes found in adults.

Vitamin D can be absorbed from sunlight or oily fish (such as sardines, tuna, mackerel and salmon) or even egg yolks. Generally rickets is found in countries with less sunshine than others. Babies receive vitamin D from their mother’s milk but can suffer if their mother is also lacking in this vitamin.

At one stage the incidence of rickets was less than 1 in 1000 children but new research suggests this may now have increased to 1 in 4 toddlers. Previous generations recommended children take a daily dose of cod liver oil to avoid the problem but sadly this practice has been largely discontinued.

To add to the debate, two senior medical professionals have discovered that a vitamin D deficiency may be a factor in some unexplained infant deaths.

Dr. Marta Cohen and Dr. Irene Scheimberg studied the cases of children who had died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Their initial findings indicate a need for more children to take a good natural diet supplement to combat any problems in vitamin deficiency.

The research was a result of a court case in 2009 when Rohan Wray and Chana Al-Alas were accused of shaking a four-month-old baby to death. Both defendants were acquitted following evidence from Dr. Scheimberg that the fractures sustained by the baby could easily be the result of severe rickets.

The subsequent study found thirty cases of vitamin D deficiency in London and a further 45 in Yorkshire. A significant number of childhood deaths examined (around three quarters) were deficient in vitamin D. The resultant weakness of the bones could easily lead to brittle bones and severe fractures. Equally, a vitamin D deficiency can cause hypocalcemic fits, which are a result of low blood calcium levels.

The belief amongst senior medical staff is now that many people in the United Kingdom are deficient in vitamin D and need to take a good natural diet supplement to compensate.

Nutritional Health Supplements: The Cold Season

This time of year can be very beautiful with the golds and reds of the trees but it is also the season when we need to be taking our nutritional health supplements to stave off the inevitable colds that seem to be around now.

But when we take these nutritional health supplements, what vitamins and minerals are best this time of year?

As always, nutritional health supplements should be taken as part of a healthier lifestyle to be most effective so it is better to ensure your life generally involves healthy options.

Your diet should always be balanced and healthy no matter what the time of year. Eat enough, but not too much, of the right foods, including those rich in vitamin C, which is the vitamin most used to combat the common cold. This can be found in such foods as citrus fruit, red and blue berries and green vegetables but a good diet should always have a good spread of fruit and vegetables in any case.

Ensure you get plenty of rest and sleep and avoid stimulants such as coffee, caffeine rich or sugary drinks and alcohol as these will simply increase your stress level. Moderate exercise taken on a daily basis will make you feel good and boost your immune system.

Drink lots of water to hydrate your body and ensure the best operation of your bodily functions. Experts vary as to how much water is best but something around eight glasses of water each day seems to be about right.

It is a sad fact of life that much of the food we eat does not contain the goodness it might have done in previous years: for this reason it is a good idea to include a daily multivitamin natural diet supplement. You can then be confident you are doing all you need to stay healthy.

A substance now available as a natural diet supplement and gaining popularity as a means of boosting the immune system is colostrum. This is obtained from the mammary glands of animals, often cows, and is rich in antibodies the body uses to combat various toxins, bacteria and viruses.

In the run up to Christmas a stinking cold can be a real annoyance but in reality we can reduce the chances of contracting one.

The website LookRavishing.com has details of quality nutritional health supplements to help you avoid the bugs and illnesses common this time of year.

Natural Diet Supplement: Nutrition For Toddlers

It is always important to ensure we all have the right nutrition – whether from our diets or from nutritional health supplements – but it is all too easy to forget that one of the most important times to ensure the body is getting the nutrients it needs is when we are growing.

One of the most difficult times a parent can have with their children is when they are at the toddler stage. Interestingly toddlers need less food than they did as babies but nutrition is still very important. Get it right now and your offspring will start off on a healthy life and will have reduced health problems in the future.

Yes, too often the wrong foods are given to children at this stage and parents run the risk of starting a cycle that leads to obesity. Smart parents need to respond to their own instincts rather than implementing a strict and unattractive regime of diet and nutritional health supplements.

Get a youngster enjoying fruit and vegetable now and you will have fewer problems when they get to the more rebellious stages. Make the foods fun and brightly coloured and your child will accept them more readily; carrots and broccoli, for example, are brightly coloured so will attract the eye of a toddler. Fruit is easy as you can combine a variety of colours in a meal.

As always, a balanced diet is the key so there needs to be a balance of fruit, vegetables, dairy products (yoghurt, milk and cheese – remember that calcium!) and some lean meat or beans.

To be completely sure you are giving your child the correct level of goodness and nutrition, it makes good sense to provide a good natural diet supplement every day too.

It is clear one of the best things you can do for young children is to get them used to the right nutrition, from food and a good natural diet supplement.

Natural Diet Supplement: Nutrition In Developing Countries

As populations become more affluent you would expect their nutrition to improve and so they would not need a natural diet supplement.

The inlive.in.com website however reports a talk given to the National Priorities in Nutrition Research conference in Hydrabad recently by Dr B Sesikeran of the Indian National Institute of Nutrition.

In his talk, Dr Sesikeran outlined a change in food habits as people’s socio-economic status improves but the signs are that nutrition does not necessarily get better. It seems Indian consumers are turning to packaged convenience foods for their affordability and as a result of consumers being open to marketing.

A new affluent lifestyle also has repercussions in terms of reduced physical activity, which suggests that obesity and heart disease may be on the increase.

It seems the affluence has brought with it a new range of diseases.

Perhaps more people are going to need to take a natural diet supplement after all.

Nutritional Health Supplements: The Dangers Of Dieting

It seems that every day we see an advertisement for some great weight loss plan that will turn us into a supermodel in days. At the same time the magazines and Internet are full of products with the same claims.

The truth is our bodies run on nutrition; we need certain vitamins and minerals to function. The danger of suddenly adopting a radical programme of weight loss is we will not give the body the nutrition it needs. Reducing a food group will remove the nutrition that group may provide.

Fad diets may help you lose some weight but only in the short term and goodness knows what damage they could do to your nutrition.

Remove all the hype and you start to understand the way the body works. The weight loss industry makes billions of dollars every year and yet obesity is an increasing problem. The reason for this is there is only really one way to gain and keep a healthy weight; you have to eat a healthy diet, not too much, and get regular exercise.

This is why obesity is a modern problem. Go back in history and you will find that life was more physical and there was little time for the body to collect excess fats. Indeed the problem was more a case of a lack of nutrition through poor diet. Some fad diets come close to replicating this ancient problem, despite a better choice of healthy foods and nutritional health supplements.

Stress was a useful reaction as it flooded the body with adrenaline ready to fight or flee from a threat. Modern stress creates the same reaction but involves a mental response and the adrenaline and energy remains uselessly in the body.

If you think about it we collect excess fats in our bodies over a long period of time. It would be foolish to suppose we can remove them quickly. In some cases such a weight reduction could cause unhealthy stresses on the body anyway. The key is to switch to a healthy balance of the correct foods and regular exercise. Fad diets often run the risk of removing the nutrition we need.

The best diet contains a good range of assorted natural foods as these are what makes the body work most effectively. Obviously fruit and vegetables are key to this and a good intake of water keeps everything hydrated and functioning. The best foods have to be home grown or locally sourced as they contain the best range of vitamins and minerals.

Exercise does not necessarily mean a trip to the gym. In fact, the best exercise involves something you can do every day without too much effort. Ditch the car for short trips and instead take a bicycle or even walk. Housework and gardening, using manual tools where possible, can provide gentle aerobic exercise and getting a pet dog gives you a great excuse for long walks.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle does not involve magic solutions but rather understanding what you eat, improve the quality of your food, reduce the quantity if necessary, eating regularly and exercising regularly. If you are worried about your nutrition levels you might consider nutritional health supplements, perhaps a multi-vitamin containing natural ingredients, but special weight reduction diets and products are rarely needed.
