Tips For Fake Tanning: Keep Your Tan Longer

Beautiful Young Woman In Grey Top Looking At Camera

Winter is almost gone and spring is on its way (we hope). Now is the time we start to expose a bit more skin and we want that skin to look at its best. One way of doing so is to use sunless tan lotions to give us that healthy glow.

Many of us know long exposure to the sun is not good for our skin and so sunless tan lotions are the way forward.

We do want to look our best, so there are some tips for fake tanning that will help keep that healthy glow for longer.

A useful article on the BeautySouthAfrica.com website has some tips to help.

As with most beauty enhancements, preparation is key. Make sure you exfoliate to remove those dead skin cells and moisturise properly. This will prepare the skin to accept the tanning lotion when you apply it.

A tan will last that much longer if you look after your skin. It is worth moisturising as much, if not more, than before and you will have healthy skin as well as looking great. Using a body oil before you get into the shower will also preserve the tan for longer.

You can always enhance the tan on your face by subtle use of blushers and bronzers – but be careful, as always, of overdoing it and having a face considerably darker than your shoulders.

Obviously there will come a time when you will have to reapply your sunless tan lotions so, when you do, be careful to create a gentle tone or you will risk changing from light to dark overnight. Some people might like this but in most cases, as with other cosmetic applications, it is always best to make things look as natural as possible.

Let’s look forward to a beautiful and healthy summer!

Sunless Tan Lotions: Tanning Without The Sun

All the reports about the instances of skin cancer and the free availability of other healthy skin tips have made many fashion-conscious people concerned about too much exposure to the sun. Quite right too.

But does this mean we all have to stay out of the sun and keep a pale complexion? Not necessarily. The availability of sunless tan lotions means that a healthy glow can still be achieved although, despite all the tips for fake tanning available, the reputation of sunless tan lotions streaking and leaving patches mans that many are unsure about their use too.

All is well, however, as science is coming to the rescue of those disillusioned by sunless tan lotions and sunbathing. Products are getting closer that promote the warm glow so many want, but do it from the inside.

Research undertaken at the Massachusetts General Hospital have identified the enzyme that regulates the production of the melanin in the skin and so the control of the skin’s colour. By looking at this enzyme (PDE-4D3) scientists have studied it’s relationship with the cAMP molecule that triggers melanin production in the presence of ultra-violet rays. As yet this is only research and has not yet resulted in a tan enhancing product. It seems only a matter of time before this changes.

See more about this research at the Beverley Hills Skin website.

Sunless Tan Lotion: Hillary Says Protect Your Skin

Here at BeRavishing.com we are advocates of sunless tan lotions but also are keen to point out the serious drawbacks to sunbathing without protection or indeed using sunbeds.

Sadly even the promotion of sunless tan lotions has not really got through to many people as most celebrities and the media still emphasise sunbathing as a way to get a tan. Okay, you can get a tan this way but please use some sort of protection.

What are the risks? Well, the definitive body regarding cancer in Britain is Cancer Research UK and they reveal that in 2010 12,818 British people were diagnosed with malignant melanoma skin cancer. In the same year there were 2,746 deaths from the condition. On a more positive note, around 100,000 people were discovered to have a non-malignant skin cancer but there are too many dying.

In the USA, the picture is even more dramatic. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the country and affects more than 2 million people each year (Skincancer.org) with one person dying of the condition every hour.

Now the celebrity world has found a champion for taking care of our skin and protecting it from the sun. Hillary Fogelson is married to Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson and has survived three skin cancer scares. She has just written a book on her experiences and runs the Pale Speaks Foundation and Melanoma Research Foundation.

Fogelson also talks about her campaign to raise awareness of the issue on her Pale Girl Speaks website. She says, “I want people to understand the danger of UV exposure – indoors and out.”

Okay, so Hillary Fogelson does not necessarily advocate sunless tan lotions as we do, but there is no doubt that ensuring the best protection when your skin is exposed to ultra-violet rays has to be a priority.

Why Use Sunless Tan Lotions?

The reasons for using sunless tan lotions seem to be getting more numerous as times goes on.

It seems the heavy tanned look is less popular than it was; we are all starting to understand the harm Ultra Violet rays do to our skin and the drive to look younger longer means many stay out of the sun. Too much exposure means the collagen in the skin is damaged and the skin loses its elasticity, sags and wrinkles.

While those who are that colour naturally look wonderful, people who get a chocolate colour from over exposure to the sun tend to look unhealthy.

The case for sunless tan lotions is also strengthened by recent publicity that reminds us of the dangers of skin cancer. I think we are all aware that the dangerous melanoma growths result from sun damage and sunbeds seem to be just as bad.

Nonetheless, beautiful people tend to have lightly tanned skin although there are many with the English Rose pale look who look wonderful too. Sunless tan lotions give you the choice – you can either use the lotions to get the shade you want without any risk or you can simply stay your natural colour. The decision is yours and we will love you whatever you choose.

Sunless tan lotions have developed over the years and no longer do you have to risk looking orange or streaky. Take a look at the healthy range of sunless tan lotions available and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Health And Beauty Tip Number 7: Consider Sunless Tan Lotions

Stunning Brunette Wearing Green Necklace

Here in the UK we are officially in the summer months and there are of course ways to have a healthy lifestyle this time of year – particularly where caring for your skin is concerned.

The biggest challenge has to be the effects of ultra-violet rays on the skin. It is unlikely that we can avoid the sun at all times so the use of sunscreen should be considered if outside. Sunblock might even be an idea for those with a light complexion. Note that sunscreens filter the suns rays and sunblock keeps them out.

It is wise not to stay too long in the sun however as the levels of skin cancer in the western world are on the increase. If a mole appears on your skin or an existing one grows in size it is well-worth having it checked by your doctor. The operation to remove moles is relatively simple and quick – far easier than having treatment for cancer.

If you are outside for any length of time, one of the more useful healthy skin tips is to moisturise regularly and, if you are starting to redden, have some after sun available. Your skin can even burn on a cloudy day – especially if it is windy as wind burn is quite a common problem. A warm atmosphere and a drying wind can affect the skin too.

If you want to have a ‘healthy’ tan, you will be better considering a sunless tan lotion rather than prolonged periods in the sun or on a sunbed.

Tips For Fake Tanning: Sunless Tanning Supplements

There has recently been some adverse publicity regarding the use of spray sunless tan lotions(perhaps the sunbed manufacturers getting their revenge, who knows?), however the problems have arisen in the US where the regulations are less strict than here in Europe.

Nonetheless, although no real studies show a problem with the use of spray sunless tan lotions, it is probably wise for anyone with doubts to consult a doctor before beginning a course ofsunless tan lotions, particularly sprays and especially if you are pregnant.

If you want to be particularly safe, then it would be best to protect the eyes, lips and nostrils whilst spraying, although this tends to be more relevant to commercial spray tanning booths rather than home aerosol sprays. As ever, common sense should prevail.

If the idea of a tanning spray turns you off then one of the best tips for fake tanning may be to use one of the quality natural tanning supplements available. These use natural nutrients to boost the body’s tanning abilities.

There are supplements already available that enhance the colour of your skin using natural carotenoids and vitamin E without exposing yourself to the sun. However if you do go out into the sun, a good sun supplement will enhance the tanning effect. In any case this product should provide useful amino acids for the body.

Good natural sun supplements encourage the body’s tanning in the sun (remember a high level of sun cream is still necessary). If you do not spend time in the sun then they should simply work as an effective multi-vitamin. This is useful for people with fairer skin as it speeds up the tanning process – but remember it does not prevent damage to the skin caused by excess exposure.

Sunless Tan Lotions: Tanning Injections

With the summer starting to make people think about their tan and so turning to sunless tan lotions, a worrying twist has been reported in the Republic of Ireland.

The Herald.ie website has repeated a warning from the Irish Health and Safety Executive and the Irish Medicines Board about self-injected fake tan injections available online.

Unlike mainstream sunless tan lotions, this injection, sold under the name ‘Melatonan,’ has not been authorised for use in Ireland and indeed there are some reports of nausea, leg pains and fatigue experienced by users of the product. While there have been no official reports of problems, both bodies have issued warnings.

The injection claims to help tanning by increasing the level of the melanin pigment in the skin, as well as suppress appetite and increase libido. It is clearly a wonder product. Or is it?

As with all injections, there is a constant danger of infection and introducing a product not properly tested and approved is risky at best.

Here at BeRavishing.com we would be suspicious of any product that claims to achieve all the things this injection does. We suggest there is no instant way to get that perfect tan – even sunless tan lotions need preparation and correct use to get the best effect.

One of the best tips for fake tanning we can suggest is to use recognised methods – and to please be careful what you buy on the Internet.

Sunless Tan Lotions: Models Avoid Sunbeds

Yet more reasons to use sunless tan lotions to get yourself a deep, brown tan came to light this week.

London Fashion Week is about to begin and (as part of Cancer Research UK’s R UV UGLY? campaign which works to raise awareness of the dangers involved in using sunbeds) the leading British model agencies have joined in a ‘no sunbed’ policy.

With perfectly good sunless tan lotions available, model agencies such as Storm, Elite and Union have agreed to a rule of no sunbed use for all their models.

Cancer Research UK have campaigned to highlight the risk of skin cancer involved in the use of sunbeds and have been instrumental in lobbying for new legislation in England and Wales to prevent under 18s from using sunbeds.

Sarah Doukas of Storm Model Management says, “Supporting this campaign makes perfect sense as the wellbeing of our models is of paramount importance and we take a serious approach to their health.”

Using sunless tan lotions to get the tan you want makes sense, especially when you understand the risks of sunbeds. Using a sunbed before the age of 35 increases the risk of worst kind of skin cancer, malignant melanoma, by 75 per cent.

It is an encouraging sign to see model agencies, which get such a bad press with regard to subjects such as thin models, take such a responsible stance.

Healthy Skin Tips: The Benefits Of Vitamin E

Vitamin E has been included in a number of products, including sunless tan lotions and healthy makeup for skin, so clearly has some benefits to our complexions. But what are they?

This vitamin has a function as an antioxidant. It prevents the build-up of free radicals in the body and thus it prevents cell damage. This can also mean a reduced risk of cancerous growths and damage to DNA. Vitamin E also supports the immune system and encourages the production of CD4 cells (to kill interloper cells naturally) and certain antibodies to promote the body’s defences against disease.

Sometimes antioxidants are also formed when the body breaks down fat to create energy. Healthy levels of vitamin E protect against this effect, particularly as it is fat-soluble itself.

This vitamin also helps the recovery from injuries, especially damage to the muscle, but this benefit also extends to the healing of the skin after injury or burns and the prevention of an excess of scar tissue forming. It may also have a beneficial effect on shingles, eczema, skin ulcers and cold sores. Overall it helps promote good skin health.

Vitamin E may well help to prevent the build-up of plaque in the arteries and so reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. There are studies that suggest it could also prevent cataracts, reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and Parkinson’s disease as well as even reducing the ill effects of menopause and PMS.

Clearly vitamin E has many interesting uses, although not all of them have been proved beyond doubt yet. Nonetheless this vitamin is a very useful component of quality nutritional health supplements and other health products.
